A long Hot Summer: Meadow-Ready Ethereal Looks

It's September which means that Summer is winding down, but not before we clock several more long hot summer days. On such hot days there is nothing better than ethereal, Florence Welch-inspired pieces, mixed with white and paired with barely there thin gold wrapped sandals and a shabby-chic late summer updo.

Ethereal styling is very simple but what makes this look intriguing is the element of individualism; these shots are striking because the women are wearing very basic pieces with a tremendous amount of confidence and personality.  So while your attempting this look- don't try to hard (it will show!), wear only what makes you feel confident and free spirited- this will shine through whatever you wear.

There are many ways to achieve this look; keep layering simple as to not look to put together. Nudes and neutrals are a wonderful place to start and finish- they make anything you pair them with appear more natural and organic. You can also work in white and lace pieces. Add simple accessories like a  long pendant necklace and pair with barely there thin gold strappy sandals. Hair is a very important part to this look- waves are wonderful but this is an excellent time to try a shabby chic updo like the 3rd photo with the flowers.
Of course, if you need more inspiration, you could always put on some Florence + the Machine and get completely carried away. ;)

Have a lovely day everyone!

Here's a really quick tutorial on how to make a Nina Ricci Inspired Flower Sash!
Its an easy way to make your outfit more romantic and feminine and liven up any dress or pair it with a high waisted pencil skirt and feminine blouse.

Marion Cottliard in Nina Ricci Dress and Flower Sash -Vogue July
Supplies
  • Remnants of 5 different shades of fabric ranging from peach, champagne, purple, and magenta, to violet and cream.  I used silkessense.
  • Ribbon
  • Aleens Fabric Glue
  • Needle and Thread
  • Rubber band
  • This template from Martha Stewart: TEMPLATE (use largest flower)

1. Asos Coast Palais Corset Bandeau Dress $162.06
2. The Lovely Flower Sash you just made :)
3. Charlotte Russe Suede Toe Bow Pumps $25.50
You can make variations of this with whatever colors you like. It not only looks great with satin but also with dark gray wool and tweed.
If your running late and need an even faster sash, pin 1 or 2 flower brooches to a ribbon and your ready to go!
Have a lovely day everyone!

Fall's Classic Revival, Channeling Sophia Loren, and Faux Bobs

My favorite fall editorial thus far is Catherine McNeil for Vogue Australia September - the beautifully feminine pieces (including by beloved Louis Vuitton), Sophia Loren inspired makeup, glamorous poses, and an equally glamorous bob.

You can achieve this glamorous look using these 2 fantastic tutorials:
Here's a video tutorial on how to get a faux bob by Ford Models hair stylist Johnny Lavoy.

And here's another great video on how to get Sophia Loren Inspired makeup up by one of my favorite make-up vloggers, pixiwoo.

These are two really fantastic tutorials that everyone ought to try. The Faux bob is a wonderful way to be spontaneous and try on a new look without committing to a serious hairstyle change. Pair it with the 60s inspired winged eyeliner, and you'll get an incredibly easy, incredibly glamorous look!

Special thanks today to Cut Out +Keep and all the judges for naming me the Fan Favorite of the Ultimate DIY Competition. Over 300 people Favorited/hearted my Chan Luu Inspired Turquoise Wrap bracelet tutorial. :)

Special thanks also to Alexandra of Sparkl.daily for naming me their Blog of the Week.
Have a lovely day everyone! :)
